Electro Homeopathy is one of the less well-known systems of complementary medicine, and there is a lot of loose information about it online. This is a short, honest explanation of what it is and what it is not.

Where it comes from

The system was developed in Italy in the 1860s by Count Cesare Mattei. He worked with spagyric plant preparations — extracts made by a specific process of fermentation, distillation and recombination — and organised them into a small number of remedy groups, each aimed at a broad function of the body rather than a single disease.

The remedy groups

Rather than hundreds of individual remedies, Electro Homeopathy works with a compact set, including:

• Scrofoloso (S) — long-standing constitutional and skin patterns
• Canceroso (C) — chronic mucous, glandular and growth-type patterns
• Angioitico (A) — inflammation and circulation
• Linfatico / Lymphatico (L) — lymphatic and immune balance
• Febrifugo (F) — acute febrile and inflammatory episodes
• Vermifugo (Ver) — digestive regulation
• Pettorale (Pett) — chest and airways

Alongside these are the electricities — Blue, Red, Green, Yellow and White — used for local effects such as calming inflammation or acting as a tonic.

How it differs from classical homeopathy

Both systems use highly diluted plant-based preparations. The main practical difference is that classical homeopathy aims to find one closely-matched “simillimum” remedy for the whole person, while Electro Homeopathy combines remedies from its functional groups and adjusts the mix over time based on how the patient responds.

What it suits — and what it doesn’t

Electro Homeopathy is best used for chronic and recurring conditions: skin disease and psoriasis, muscular and joint pain, allergic complaints, and functional problems around stress, stamina, appetite and weight. It is not a treatment for medical emergencies, cancer, or serious infections, and it should not replace medication for conditions like diabetes, epilepsy, heart disease or autoimmune disease — there it can only play a supportive role. Where withdrawal from alcohol is involved, medically supervised detox always comes first.
